Orange Alert for Rain and Sea Agitation

In a statement, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has issued an orange warning for rain in Madeira.

The warning is in effect between 18:00 and 21:00 tomorrow (Monday), and covers the South Coast of Madeira and the Regions Mountainous.

Rain may be accompanied by thunderstorms.

A yellow warning was also issued for wind, which can reach 80 km/h on the North Coast and Porto Santo, 90 km/h on the South Coast, and 110 km/h in the mountainous regions. This warning is in effect between  15:00 tomorrow and midday on Tuesday, in Porto Santo and the mountainous regions of Madeira. The North Coast’s yellow wind warning is in force from 00:00 and midday on Tuesday.  The south coast will be affected from 15:00 to midnight.

Furthermore, the IPMA also issued a yellow warning for sea agitation between 21:00 tomorrow and 03:00 on Tuesday for the North Coast (Northwest waves) and Porto Santo (Northwest waves) and a yellow warning to the South Coast between 21:00 tomorrow and 06:00 on Wednesday.

Please note that the yellow warning will rise to orange from 03:00 to midnight on Tuesday, as waves could reach six metres on the North Coast and Porto Santo. After this, waves are expected to decrease in size to five metres from midnight to midday on Wednesday.
