Lack of Medicines Stop Surgeries

The Regional Health Service said today that “it is false to say that SESARAM does not pay its suppliers or have enough medicines.

The regional authority reacted abruptly to the headline posted in DIÁRIO on the 3rd of January, reporting that a lack of medicines compromises the general hospital’s Accident and Emergency Service.

In a statement, they said:

“There are altered treatments because of the shortage of drugs at the Funchal hospital and there are suppliers who refuse to meet SESARAM’s needs due to delays in payments.”

The New Right (ND) party went public asking the Regional Secretary for Health to explain the reasoning behind the accusations levied against the health service regarding the lack of prescription drugs at the Dr. Nelio Mendonça Hospital.

Responding to the article, the Regional Health Service denies any failure to pay their suppliers but did admit that there are occasional shortages of medicines.

“The Emergency Service works 24 hours a day, without interruption, and occasionally there may be a shortage of some pharmaceutical drugs, but once its failure is identified, the drug is replaced by another product with the same characteristics, and we always protect the safety of our patients”, clarified SESARAM in a note sent to the newsrooms early yesterday afternoon.

Faced with this scenario, the coordinator of the New Right (ND) party in Madeira, Paulo Azevedo, considers it “unacceptable that the health of Madeirans and Porto Santo is being put at risk due to the lack of adequate and responsible management.”

The party also leaves a set of questions addressed directly to Pedro Ramos: “Will you play with the health of our population? What are the reasons for the lack of essential medicines in the hospital? What steps have been taken to address this situation? When will the reserve of stock of medicines be guaranteed?”

“We do not accept excuses or invasive responses. The Madeirans and Porto Santo deserve respect and the party will continue to closely monitor this situation, to guarantee the rights of the Constitution, where everyone has the right to a health service for all and not just for some,” underlines Paulo Azevedo.

The New Right Party (ND) was established on the 9th of January 2024.  It’s a right-wing party under the umbrella of national conservatism.
