The Price of Coffee Goes Up

Climate change is affecting the nation’s favourite hot beverage – coffee.

If you can’t do without your coffee, then get ready to spend more on your daily intake.  For the coming year, further increases are planned leaving many cafe owners wondering how to manage the situation, should they raise prices and risk losing customers or keep prices the same and lose money?

Some coffee shops have already embraced the new fees while others refuse to increase their prices, for fear of frightening people away.

At the moment a chinesa (white coffee) costs between €1.35 to €3.15 depending on where you drink it.

Nescafé ground coffee has also gone up by €2.00.

If this carries on we will have to revert to what the Madeirans used to do and roast grape seeds to create a unique blend of coffee – hummmm!!
