History was made at the Regional Assembly yesterday morning, the 17th of December 2024.
The motion of censure presented by Chega has been approved. The action of opposition in the Autonomous Region of Madeira has dismissed the Regional Government. Chega, PS, JPP, PAN, and IL have thus united against the government of Miguel Albuquerque.
Only the 19 deputies of the PSD and the two of the CDS voted in favour, there were no abstentions.
As a result of this verdict, the XV Regional Government will now enter a management regime. With Madeira facing 2025 with new elections and no approved budget.
Meanwhile, ‘talks’ will take place at the São Lourenço Palace, and also in Belém, where the Council of State will also interfere. Meanwhile, Regional Legislative elections will probably be held in the last week of February 2025, the third in approximately sixteen months (September 2023, May 2024).
In both, the PSD won without an absolute majority. Since then the party has been, some believe held hostage to successive agreements with coalition parties.
