The proposal to amend the Regulation of establishment opening hours and noisy activities registered “record” participation during the public discussion, highlighting the high concentration of citizens.
In total, 127 contributions were received, of which 114 were submitted by residents and 13 by companies. The data were announced today by the Mayor of Funchal, Cristina Pedra, during the meeting of the Funchal Municipal Assembly.
Cristina Pedra pointed out that the high number of participants reflects the concern of the people of Funchal about a problem that has generated numerous complaints, with residents reporting that their health is suffering from a lack of sleep.
The Mayor says that in addition to the Public Consultation, meetings were held with various entities and residents, and that they are now able to study the data and define what is feasible and what isn’t.”
Cristina Pedra stresses that the executive’s position is clear: “The city must be a place where it is possible to live with dignity and where economic activities can coexist without adversely impacting residents. We don’t want a ghost town, but we want night activities to start and end earlier. We need to find a balance between economic development and the well-being of the population.”
The mayor further stressed that the Executive has the courage to tackle this difficult issue, underlining that new regulations are a response to the needs of the city’s residents and businesses.
