The classified pedestrian route da Levada do Rei (PR 18), in São Jorge, is impassable due to a collapse, confirmed the Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation (IFCN).
This is one of the seven paid routes.
However, PR10 Levada do Furado which was closed and allows walkers to connect from Ribeiro Frio to Portela, has already reopened. This route suffered a major collapse in March and was forced to close while Águas e Resíduos da Madeira (ARM), carried out restoration works budgeted at 51 thousand euros.
This was one of the eight levadas that were part of the candidacy, which has been ‘withdrawn,’ from the Levadas da Madeira application to World Heritage.
