The Portuguese Communist Party (PCP) was out today talking to workers from several regional public companies as part of their campaign ‘Increase Wages and Pensions for a Better Life.’ As part of this, they defend the right for people to retire after 40 years of work regardless of age.
The PCP leader denounced that “it is not fair, nor socially acceptable that, after 40 years of work, someone is forced to work to survive until they reach the legal retirement age, in a framework marked by a high level of physical and emotional exhaustion, subject to intense work rhythms and when they have paid 40 years of social security contributions.”
Ricardo Lume concluded by stating that “the PCP, who want to put an end to this injustice, presented in the discussion of the State Budget for 2025 a proposal that aims to guarantee the right of workers with 40 years or more of contributions to be able to opt for the right to retirement without any penalties or reductions, regardless of age.”
