Last year, 18 tonnes of medicines were thrown away.
During his visit to CFARMA, the President of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque said this is a monumental waste and argues that it is urgent to raise awareness among the population of the need to reduce the consumption of medicines. He further went on to say that there is an increase in the consumption of cancer drugs, which is normal, as we have “increasingly innovative and effective treatments.”
He explained that the cost of medicines, in general, between SESARAM and IASaúde already exceeds one hundred million euros.
