Seasonal Vaccine Update

The Seasonal Vaccination Campaign against Influenza and Covid-19: Autumn-Winter 2024-2025, began on the 18th of September in the Region and aims to protect the population during the winter,  when acute viral infections are most common. “Vaccination is the most effective measure to prevent severe disease, hospitalisation, and death from infection, so it is recommended to the most vulnerable people and health professionals in critical services,” states a press release from the Regional Directorate of Health.

In a press statement, the DRS informs that two weeks after the start of the campaign, 10,772 people were vaccinated against flu (8,700 with the normal dose vaccine and 2,072 with the high dose), and 2,503 people vaccinated against COVID-19. Most people living with chronic diseases asked to be vaccinated, which equates to 4,607 flu vaccines and 1,202 people being vaccinated against Covid-19.

The same source points out that seasonal vaccination against Influenza and Covid-19 should preferably take place until winter and is strongly recommended and free of charge in the Region for various groups, namely:

– People aged 50 and over;

– People with chronic illness;

-Pregnant women;

– Health professionals (public and private) – pharmacies, students in clinical internship, professionals involved in patient transport;

– Social professionals – caregivers for dependent people;

– Professionals in the early childhood and pre-school education sector – kindergartens, crèches and similar;

– Critical service professionals – civil protection and firefighters; court staff and registry offices; state security forces and services.

– Other caregivers and;

– Institutionalised people.

“We remind you that free vaccinations are available across the region’s Health Centres, with and without an appointment, and those eligible should contact their local health centre.

The awareness campaign is aimed at various target groups, with the message “GET VACCINATED! Strengthen your defences against FLU and COVID-19” is promoted by the Regional Directorate of Health, and broadcast on digital media platforms, health units, and various partner entities.
