The President of Chega has said that two of the citizens murdered in Lisbon were candidates for the party in Alenquer and that he will report “sharing and information” to the authorities, despite not having any evidence of political motivations.
Speaking to journalists at the Assembly of the Republic, André Ventura said that the couple murdered in the triple homicide that took place last Wednesday, in Penha de França, in Lisbon, was made up of two “supporters of Chega,” who were “candidates on the party’s lists for the Municipal Assembly of Alenquer.”
“We have no evidence so far that the crime that was carried out was politically motivated – despite some messages, information, and sharing that we will send to the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) and the Judiciary Police (PJ).”
André Ventura claimed that “in recent days and weeks” his party has been “a permanent target of threats, either originating from social networks or contacts of a digital nature,” adding that the party will contact the Judicial Police to “ensure that it has all the information available to understand the motivations of this murder and what led to this circumstance happening and why the narrative of this murder is becoming politicised.”
The leader of Chega stressed several times that he does not have any evidence pointing to political motivations but considered that “this circumstance cannot be ruled out.”
