In the middle of the harvest season, any additional help is always welcome, and here in Madeira is no different. Yet not many know or realise that our levada network can be used as a transportation route for baskets of grapes.
The idea is not new, but well worth remembering, which is why Juan Teixeira, General Manager of Justino’s Madeira Wines SA, posted a video of this unique transport system on his Facebook account.
Half-filled boxes with grapes are placed in the Levada do Norte, with the moving water being responsible for transporting them over great distances without any effort.
