Pedro Lima, President of the Association of Cider Producers Madeira, in an interview with Radio JM-FM, reports that cider production could drop by more than 50% due to the high temperatures affecting the pears’ maturation.
“We have a production much lower than last year, with very little fruit,” stated the President, revealing that the production of bottled cider is around 90 thousand liters. “What we see is a drop probably of more than 50%,” he lamented.
However, our 2023 stock is still being drained, so the effect of the drop “will be attenuated.” “Hopefully,” said Pedro Lima “there will be a normal winter in 2024/2025, so this will positively affect our 2025 cider production and we will be able to rebalance existing stock levels.”
