Bela Vista Home: Residents Forced to Take Cold Baths

In a press release, the RIR (React, Include and Recycle) party regrets the situation published today by JM, that some elderly residents being subjected to cold water baths at Lar da Bela Vista, as reported by family members.

In the opinion of the Reagir Incluir Reciclar Party, which says that there have been several complaints of problems in that home, it is “justifiable to investigate the situation through an Inquiry Commission.

As the party writes, “regrettably, once again we have become aware of bizarre situations occurring at the Bela Vista Establishment. There have been several complaints over the time that IPSS Atalaia Living Care has managed the aforementioned residential structure for the elderly, which in the opinion of the RIR Party justifies an investigation.”

For the RIR, “regardless of this management being granted to this IPSS since the 1st of July, 2023, the Social Security Institute of Madeira is also responsible for these occurrences, since by granting the management of the largest establishment that was in its possession to Atalaia Living Care, it already had prior knowledge of other alarming situations that occurred in other establishments managed by this institution.”

An IPSS whose mission is “to provide humanised health and well-being care that promotes the autonomy and comfort of residents and enhances their quality of life” by allowing cold water baths, as denounced by a family member to a morning newspaper in our region, is clearly failing in its mission and we dare to consider this situation as an act of cruelty.”

Concluding, the party states that “urgent action is needed in relation to these situations. Everyone has the right to sympathetic healthcare.”
