AL Sees 39.9% Growth

In Local Accommodation (AL), 532.1 thousand guests were registered (+39.9% than in 2022), which gave rise to more than 2.6 million overnight stays, representing an increase of 34.1% compared to 2022 and 111.8% compared to 2019. The information was released today by the Regional Directorate of Statistics of Madeira (DREM).

The same analysis adds that, with regard to time-sharing, there was the entry of 53.7 thousand guests (-10.1% than in 2022). Overnight stays stood at 570.8 thousand, decreasing by 8.4% compared to 2022 and by 8.6% compared to 2019.

DREM explains that of the total number of incoming guests and overnight stays, about 67.5% and 65.5%, in the same order, are already accounted for in the hotel industry, given that all time-sharing establishments in the “tourist housing” modality are included in the sample of the Survey on the Permanence of Guests in Hotels and other Accommodations (IPHH). In a separate survey, developed by DREM (Survey on the Permanence of Guests in Time-sharing Establishments), the total number of establishments that practice this modality is calculated autonomously, which, in 2023, accounted for 17.5 thousand guests entered and 196.9 thousand overnight stays, with an average stay of 8.15 days.

As for ‘other types of collective tourist accommodation’, last yearthere were 36.1 thousand overnight stays in holiday camps and youth hostels, representing increases of 27.3% compared to 2022 and 52.3% compared to 2019. The national market accounted for 74.3% of the total overnight stays (+34.2% more than in 2022).
