The constant road constraints in Pico do Areeiro have forced the Regional Government to resort to using Public Security Police (PSP) officers to control traffic in the area. The police will supervise traffic during the mornings and are having to do so due to the “indiscipline and negligence” of visitors.
Local bus company, Horários do Funchal is assessing the feasibility of creating a tourist bus route to the area. Furthermore, taxi drivers have confirmed that they are willing to transport visitors the last couple of kilometres, while a new 250 parking area is waiting to be assessed.
