Yesterday, an American couple were swept away by a sudden wave at Seixal Beach, in Porto Moniz, and had to be rescued by officers from the Porto Moniz Lifesaving Station of SANAS Madeira.
A 34-year-old male and a 30-year-old female, both Americans, were surprised by a wave and swept out to sea while they were bathing in the natural pools of Seixal.
A member of the public, who witnessed the situation, threw two buoys to provide buoyancy.
Once rescued, the couple, who were visibly shaken were immediately transported by ambulance to the local health centre.
