The Funchal City Council, as part of its environmental awareness programme, has since the 1st of April opened its 1st ‘Trees of our Streets’ interpretive route.
Winding its way through some of the city’s streets, lanes, and squares the informative walk aims to identify the city’s trees and promote a better knowledge of the urban environment, which in turn encourages people to respect green spaces and public areas.
All the walks are guided by a technician from the Environmental Awareness Unit.
In a press release, a spokesperson for the initiative said:
“Promoting the city as a learning space and providing participants with the opportunity to experience their city, transforming it into a place of identity are other objectives of this environmental education activity.”
