The Regional Secretary for Health and Civil Protection said today that it was deemed necessary that the regional health system has more resources, and that because of this, the decision to open night emergency care in four more municipalities has been authorised.
Closed for years, and despite a long-standing demand by local populations to have an out-of-hours emergency service, many feel that the sudden opening of such facilities is no more than election bait, especially as the elections are only twelve days away.
However, when asked, Pedro Ramos refuted such allegations:
“When we were asked this question, some time ago, we said that depending on the organisation we had, the human resources we had, and the integrated response system we already had, namely, with the collaboration of the rapid response intervention team of the Pre-Hospital Emergency Service, we were able to ensure the rescue and health of our citizens only with the four 24-hour emergency services in the four municipalities and the rest closing at 10:00 p.m.”
