Burglars Steal Copper From Choupana Hill

A possible attempted robbery is thought to have caused the power outage in the Boa Nova area.

Local media outlet, JM, believes that the power cut was caused by thieves trying to steal copper from the disused Choupana Hills Hotel Power Station.  The robbery backfired as one of the thieves was injured as the system shorted.

The Portuguese Red Cross and EMIR were called to intervene, but the man reportedly fled the scene. According to popular reports, the individual had burns on his face and hands.

Soon after the event, the Madeira Electricity Company (EEM) announced they were aware of the problem and quickly resolved the situation.
