Counterfeit Items Seized by PSP

The Public Security Police carried out a mega inspection operation on the 4th of March at the Feira do Santo da Serra.  The surprise inspection was carried out by the Machico Police Division and involved officers from the Machico and Santa Cruz Police Stations. According to a press statement, the PSP revealed that during the inspection “two sales stalls were found to be selling various allegedly counterfeit material, including 63 pairs of brand name trainers and 33 textile items, including t-shirts.  Two males aged 56 and 57, both of foreign nationality were suspected of selling counterfeit goods.

It is estimated that about 1000 Euros worth of counterfeit products were withdrawn from circulation in just one operation.

The Regional Command of Madeira also informs that in the last year and a half over 300 counterfeit items have been seized by the Machico Police Division, in three different areas, totalling a commercial value of around 3,000 euros.
