The Health Service of the Region (SESARAM, EPERAM) has already called forward 313 women to undergo routine cervical cancer screening.
At he moment, all those within the age range (25 – 60) are being called, however, amendments to the system should allow for all screening appointments to be made via SMS. This will also be rolled out to include patient results, these are currently being sent by letter.
In parallel with the screening, HPV (Human papillomavirus) vaccinations are underway as part of the Regional Vaccination Plan. The HPV vaccine has been administered to all girls (2008) and boys (2020) aged 10 and upwards.
Started in 2022 as a pilot project, the cervical cancer screening initiative is currently taking place in several health centres across Madeira.
