CMF Ready for Storm Irene

The Funchal City Council (CMF) has already prepared the plan for prevention and response to storm Irene, to control any damage to heritage and, above all, material damage in the Madeiran capital.

Several technicians from the Municipality, the Municipal Civil Protection Service, and the Sapper Firefighters will be on the ground.

The service team of the Funchal Fire Brigade will be reinforced, and prevention will be ensured by the team of the next shift.

On the street, several elements of the CMF and the Fire Department will “make rounds of the critical points which are prone to flooding (water and sewage), and be ready to intervene and clear any problematic areas.

The technicians of the Municipal Civil Protection Service will “be monitoring the situation, in terms of occurrences and meteorological evolution, as in all orange or red weather warnings,” advances the Municipality, reinforcing that since the warnings are in after-work hours, the CMF has scheduled several technicians to monitor the situation.

The Funchal Fire Brigade will reinforce its teams, having means ready “for any eventuality, from a logistical support team, light vehicles with gutter clearance equipment and chainsaws in addition to the procedures and “operational conduct instituted to approach interventions associated with adverse weather conditions.”
