In a statement issued today, LIDL Portugal reiterated “its interest in expanding its operation to the Autonomous Region of Madeira,” stating that it has received, “so far, all the necessary support from the local authorities.”
“The investment in a maximum quality offer at the best price is what characterises and differentiates the company’s business model, so it is essential to be able to maintain this premise for all customers, including our future Madeiran customers. That is why LIDL Portugal is reorganising its expansion plan for the Autonomous Region of Madeira, following the economic and financial context, national and international, currently experienced, without any political motivation,” states the press release from the German supermarket chain.
LIDL Portugal takes the opportunity to distance itself “from the discussion held in the public space around the ongoing licensing procedures,” adding that it is unaware of it and that this “is in no way related to the ongoing reorganisation.”
