The Regional Health Service issued a statement today, saying that despite computer problems, the care provided in both the clinical and non-clinical services remained unaffected.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of SESARAM, Herberto Jesus, points out that, following the August computer attack, interventions have been carried out to improve the computer network, has created a few minor blips within the system. He, however, assured everyone that this was not a new attack and that the quality and security of the services provided had never been called into question.
He further added that all urgent clinical procedures went ahead as planned and that the operating room, central, outpatient, and minor surgeries all took place without any problems.
Hospital and health centre care remained normal. These services correspond to medical, technical, and nursing consultations, home visits, nursing treatments, physiotherapy, and urgent care services. Only some of the scheduled appointments were rescheduled, due to the existing constraint on access to the clinical information necessary for safe and quality care.
Herberto Jesus adds that “there may be some embarrassment, some reduction or even some difficulty in some type of procedures,” which are being resolved on a case-by-case basis.
Constraints that, although of some complexity, “will be surmountable”, and SESARAM is in talks with IBM International to solve resolve the problem as soon as possible.
Herberto Jesus thanked the “exceptional collaboration of the health system employees who are already used to working in all conditions because they are well trained and provide excellent health care.”
