During a CMF meeting, it was agreed that four animal welfare associations will receive 15,000 euros of support each for their sterilisation programmes. This year the number of animals sterilised from CMF funding rose from 188 to 600. With the support of the AMRAM programme, the number will reach, in 2024, more than 1300 animals.
On a completely different topic, the CMF has also agreed to look at improving the functioning of the municipality and its services, creating faster and less bureaucratic responses.
Pedro Calado, Mayor of Funchal (CMF), stated that these changes are well overdue and that the municipality needs to reorganise and improve some of its services. Furthermore, a heritage department is to be created.
Also approved at an executive meeting was the reinforcement of municipal rental support, having raised the feasible rent ceiling for support to 900 euros. With this measure, the city council intends to “address the shortcomings in this area.” This support currently covers 4,000 people and this change aims to extend it to a greater number of citizens including the middle class.
Support of 2,900 euros was also approved to support 700 students of the 1st Cycle of Santa Maria Maior with toys and four tax benefit processes for young couples in the acquisition of housing.
