Government To Support Cattle Farmers

The Regional Government has decided to allocate a total of 110 thousand euros to associations and cooperatives of cattle farmers in the municipalities of Ponta do Sol, Calheta, and Porto Moniz at the Extraordinary Government Council, which took place this morning.

“The programme contracts, signed through the Regional Secretary for Agriculture and Environment (SRAA), recognise the invaluable contribution of cattle farming associations and the sudden public interest in their survival due to the recent fires.”

As it is public, the grazing of cattle may be authorised by the competent regional body, provided that it is carried out in areas with adequate topography, good stocking conditions, and adequate vegetation cover to accommodate the entire farm herd.  Cattle are not allowed to graze in areas of headwaters, hilltops, very steep slopes, cliffs, and watercourses for their safety.
