The Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation (IFCN) has confirmed that the following walking routes will be closed on Sunday, the 29th of October due to bad weather.
For safety reasons, the IFCN advises people not to drive or walk in mountainous areas and forest spaces.
After the end of the warnings, the classified walking routes will be opened, with the exception of the following which will remain closed:
• PR 1 – Vereda do Areeiro
• PR 4 – Levada do Barreiro
• PR 7 – Levada do Moinho
• PR 12 – Caminho Real da Encumeada (partially closed – the section between kilometer point PK 7+680 (PK 0+000 in Bica da Cana) and Encumeada will remain closed)
• PR 15 – Vereda da Ribeira da Janela
• PR 16 – Levada Fajã do Rodrigues
• PR 19 – Caminho Real do Paul do Mar
• PR 20 – Vereda do Jardim do Mar
• PR 23 – Levada da Azenha
With the opening of the classified walking routes, the IFCN asks walkers to report any occurrences such as landslides, fallen branches, trees, or any other obstructions.
You can contact the IFCN by emailing ifcn@madeira.gov.pt; luisa.gouveia@madeira.gov.pt or ana.se@madeira.gov.pt.” A photograph of the situation will also help teams pinpoint the exact area where the trouble has occurred.
Furthermore, the IFCN advises all walkers to proceed with caution as the pedestrian routes can be badly affected by bad weather, and are particularly susceptible to soil erosion.
