The “GameJam+ Madeira” opened last week. This global event runs until today and involves participants from different geographies.
The initiative translates into an intensive two-day marathon of game development and takes place simultaneously with all the GameJams located across the globe.
This initiative is being developed by Startup Madeira, within the scope of the activities of the EGames Lab consortium, with the support of Digital Valley Portugal.
The Regional Secretary for Economy, Sea, and Fisheries, Rui Barreto was present at the start of the event, which took place in the Rectory of Madeira auditorium, and, to journalists, highlighted the “relevance” of the gaming sector, which at a European level represents “87 billion euros,” produces an economy greater than that of cinema and involves two billion players on the planet.
“Madeira has excellent conditions to develop this aspect of technology in the area of gaming,” emphasized Rui Barreto, showing that “this is another initiative to create global markets from Madeira, and attract people and create jobs.”
