‘Madeira. So Sustainable’ is the name of the new campaign promoted by the Madeira Promotion Association (APM), in order to praise the work done by the archipelago in recent decades with regard to the protection of its nature.
“The Autonomous Region of Madeira has become, in recent decades, an unavoidable reference of Nature Conservation worldwide, putting into practice several guidelines and actions aimed at the preservation of the natural heritage, the sustainability of the territory, and the valorisation of endogenous resources. In fact, currently, about 65% of the land area of the archipelago and 89% of the territorial sea are protected and safeguarded, “says APM, which also recalls the certification process through which the Region has passed to be currently certified as a sustainable destination.
“A demanding and evolutionary process that imposes the progressive conquest of four levels, forcing the destination to demonstrate adequate compliance with the criteria evaluated over time and consistently.”
According to the association, the development of the Madeira destination is also aligned with the 10 articles of the World Tourism Organisation’s Global Code of Ethics for Tourism and the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, which contribute to maximising the benefits of tourism while minimising potential negative impacts.
“To share this reality, increasingly important and valued with the general public, Madeira presents the campaign “Madeira. So Sustainable,” which promotes not only the certification process for which the destination has committed, as well as the pillars associated with the certification process and makes known the reasons that make the Region a Sustainable Destination,” announced the Madeira Promotion Association.
This campaign will be carried out on social networks, namely Facebook and Instagram.
