Patient Safety Walk

On Saturday, the 30th of September on Avenida do Mar, the Madeiran Communities will host a ‘Walk for Patient Safety,’ starting at 17:30. The walk will start from the Museu CR7 – Cable car – Museu CR7.

This initiative is promoted by the Madeira Regional Nucleus of the Portuguese League Against Cancer, SESARAM, and the Global Risk Management Commission, which are thus associated with the World Day for Patient Safety, celebrated on the 17th of September, with the aim of “increasing the understanding of the importance of patient safety and contributing to prevent and reduce preventable accidents in health care at a global level.”

According to a press statement, the 2023 theme is ‘Elevate the voice of patients!’ Highlighting the critical role of engagement among patients, families, and caregivers in health care safety.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), involving patients in their healthcare leads to greater safety, satisfaction, and an increase in positive health outcomes. The campaign slogan calls for ‘giving patients a voice!’ Therefore, encouraging patient involvement in policy-making, design of safety strategies, governance, and active participation in their healthcare.
