Landslide Scares Bathers

A localised rockfall on the escarpment between the Tabua and the Lugar de Baixo, in Ponta de Sol, just after 12 o’clock, scared bathers who were on the beach esplanade and close to the site of the occurrence.

Fortunately, there were no bathers or walkers close by. But rubble, stones, and earth eventually fell on the beach and into the sea.

When questioned by reporters, the Mixed Firefighters of Ribeira Brava and Ponta de Sol confirmed that they had not been called out to the occurrence, which was further backed up by the Municipal Civil Protection Service who stated that they had received no calls for assistance, but said they would monitor the situation.
