As part of a 30 million euro package Quinta da Lorde will undergo an extensive refurbishment during the first half of 2024 under the ‘Dreams Madeira’ brand. The transformation will now see the site being used as an all-inclusive resort linked to the Hyatt brand, have 360 rooms, and 12 dining spaces, and provide employment for approximately 250 people.
Interestingly enough, a local dive school has stated that they are unable to use Quinta da Lorde as a dive site as the current management has started charging dive schools to use the area. No legislation prohibits diving in the area or states that a charge must be levied. Yet again, further evidence that Madeira’s south coast is under threat from developers and those who feel that Madeira’s waters should be a paid-for experience.
