Madeira’s Bio-Regions Promoted

The Centre for Development and Innovation Sociocultural and Agroforestry (CDISA), Jardim da Serra, is promoting ‘Madeira Bio-Regions’ between the 25th and 27th of July.

Reflecting on the concept of Bio-Regions, discussing the possibility of a constitution for Madeira’s Bio-Region, and evaluating the feasibility of a constitution that will cover the biological regions in Madeira are the objectives of the event organised by CDISA, under their mantra, ‘think globally, act locally.

The three-day programme began today at 10:00 with the Mayor of Câmara de Lobos, Pedro Coelho attending the opening ceremony. This was followed by a visit to the Metaphora Theatre, and, in the afternoon, between 14:00 and 17h30, a guided tour of the MPB explorations of Jardim da Serra was given.

On Wednesday, the 26th, a guided tour of Fajã dos Padres, via Cabo Girão will commence at 10:00. At the end of the day, between 18:30 and 21:30, a meeting of representatives of Portuguese and European Bio-Regions will take place in the auditorium of the Bio-Hotel Quinta da Serra. The meeting will be attended by representatives of regional and local institutions linked to agriculture, the economy, culture, research, and local and regional authorities.

On Thursday, the 27th, a visit will be made to the Farmers’ Market at 10 am. This will be followed by an audience with the President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, at noon, and, finally, a visit to the Ribeiro Seco Cane Honey Factory.
