Over Tourism: We Are An Expensive Destination

The President of the Regional Government, Miguel Albuquerque, considers that if the price of hotels and the expense per tourist has risen exponentially, there is no need to fear the future of Madeira’s tourism.

President Miguel Albuquerque claims that Madeira has 33,2027 beds and that any tourist destination with this number of beds is small. In addition, he reminded journalists that the tourist plan allows for 40,000 beds.

While visiting Santana, Miguel Albuquerque said that worries about tourism are worries that no one has to fear. “All people are doing is creating fear! This idea of inventing confusion, when we are successful, is nothing more than self-flagellation.”

Concluding, he said that Madeira is already working on finding more solutions to avoid tourist concentrations in some areas.
