Madeira will not become a mass tourism destination, says Eduardo Jesus, the Regional Secretary for Tourism and Culture.
He went on to say, that tourism has never been as busy or gained as much as now but maintains that the island will remain a quality holiday destination. Despite questions from reporters, he refused to be drawn into giving his opinion on the increase in ‘barefoot tourism.’
That said, it was confirmed this morning that the Golden Gate will be converted into an 80-room hotel.
