Strong winds led to the cancellation of 24 arrivals and the diversion of 5 flights.
By 11:57 a.m. the Madeie Airport website showed that six arrivals had been cancelled – 4 TAP flights from Lisbon, and 2 from EasyJet, from Lisbon and London. In addition to these, another 18 flights were cancelled.
Five flights were diverted due to the wind that is felt in the Region after the Captaincy of the Port of Funchal issued a strong wind warning for this afternoon.
Only the day before, the President of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque addressed Minister Galamba during his visit to Madeira, stating that:
“We stubbornly keep the wind limits. We continue to let the situation drag on without anyone being able to solve it.”
Concluding, Miguel Albuquerque called for the situation to be resolved once and for all through open dialogue and practical solutions.
