A 30-year-old tourist risked his life this afternoon by walking along the rock wall of the pier of Câmara de Lobos, while the sea still raged from the effects of Storm Oscar.
In front of the incredulous gaze of onlookers, the man traversed the knife-edge rocks only to be engulfed by a breaking wave that toppled him over, plunging him 2 metres onto the rocks below.
The man, who was walking alone, tried to stand up, but couldn’t, was initially assisted by two onlookers but had to be assisted by the Volunteer Firefighters of Câmara de Lobos, who treated him on-site and transported him to hospital.
