According to the Portuguese Institute of Atmosphere and Sea (IPMA) website, two minor earthquakes were recorded off the Madeiran coast within 6 hours of each other.
The first earthquake, measuring 1.4 on the Richter Scale, was recorded at 21:43 last night (4th), off the southwest coast of the Desertas. The second, a 1.0 magnitude earthquake, occurred at 01:58 off the southwest coast of Ribeira Brava.
Their depths were 4 km and 6 km respectively.
