So with all the death and disaster we have had on Madeira’s coastline over the last couple of weeks it is not surprising that two tourists decided to be incredibly stupid and brave the waves at Praia Formosa.
The two, who were captured on video, were shown being battered relentlessly by waves before being knocked off their feet by a more significant wave. Undeterred, although submerged underwater and dragged up the beach, the two tourists decided that much fun would be had and embarked on their foolish adventure for a second and a third time.
Although providing a spectator sport, Madeira’s coastline is anything but soft. And with one man being swept away while photographing waves, three women nearly lost their lives when swept away by a large wave, and the most recent, a young Army man disappeared when he was engulfed in a large wave. Actions like this are reckless, to say the least, and endanger not only their own lives but those of our emergency services personnel.
