Due to heavy rainfall, a rockfall on the road connecting Garajau and Caniço caused concern among residents.
During the afternoon, several large stones fell on the road of Garajau, located a few metres from the public garden, a popular place for families.
The Municipal Civil Protection Service of Santa Cruz and the parish council of Caniço are working on solving the problem. Local newspaper, JM, reported that the work is being done with special emphasis on vehicle and pedestrian circulation and safety, especially as this is a popular walking and running route.
At the moment part of the road is cordoned off and the authorities ask people to avoid travelling in the area where possible.
These incidents generally generate apprehension among local communities, and Caniço is no exception.
