The Volunteer Firefighters of Santana were called out this afternoon to rescue a tourist who had become lost while walking between Queimadas and Achada do Teixeira, in Santana. Due to the difficulty of the terrain the Civil Protection Firefighting helicopter was dispatched to provide aerial cover and surveillance. The Forestry Police are also engaged in the search.
Instead of returning to the start of her journey the woman become lost en route and finally phoned 112 for help. Luckily her location was identified by her phone’s GPS.
The idea was for the helicopter crew to undertake an active surveillance role and pinpoint the woman’s exact location.
Luckily the woman is well and uninjured.
