Paulo Cafôfo, the Secretary of State for the Communities, is said to have omitted to inform the Constitutional Court (TC) of the sale of a property in Madeira in April 2018, while he was Mayor of Funchal, state national newspaper Correio da Manhã.
The news article shows that Paulo Cafôfo sold a house located in the parish of Madalena do Mar, together with his ex-wife, for 250 thousand euros, according to the deed of purchase and sale. The proceeds were divided equally between them.
When questioned by newspaper reporters, Paulo Cafôfo replied: “With regard to the income statement submitted to the TC, for that year 2018, I clarify that the declared gross income, for 82,760 euros, includes the income earned by the political functions I exercised in the Funchal City Council and also the VAT obtained from the sale of that house, in accordance with the overall income calculated by the Tax and Customs Authority, contained in the IRS settlement act that was sent to me for that year and which cleared a net collection of 25,963.06 euros (this was the tax amount I paid that year).”
Paulo Cafôfo was being investigated for suspected corruption.
