Four Madeirans in Top 30 Richest Politicians

There are four Madeirans among the 30 richest Portuguese politicians according to a recent edition of Sábado magazine, which last week identified the richest and the poorest among government officials, deputies, and mayors.

Combining real estate assets, company shareholdings, accounts, and financial assets, the richest Madeiran politician, according to the magazine’s criteria, is Sérgio Marques who has a fortune of 1,149,816 euros. The Member of the Assembly of the Republic and former MEP occupies the ninth place on a list led by socialist Basilio Horta, Mayor of Sintra, with 10 million euros.

The next Madeiran to appear on the list is Miguel Albuquerque who lies in 167th place with a wealth valued at 849,737 euros. Also on the list are Sara Madruga da Costa (€533.293) and Pedro Calado (€510,536), which puts them in 29th and 30th place respectively.

According to the magazine, individual wealth is determined from the data provided to the Constitutional Court or from the responses sent by the politicians themselves to the magazine.  However, there were those who did not participate in the poll.
