At 22:53 local media outlet, JM reported that the Volunteer Firefighters of Câmara de Lobos (BVCL), had been called out to search for a tourist who was lost in the mountains.
Initially, information was scarce, especially, as the tourist was unable to pinpoint their location. The firefighters had to cover the area of Curral das Freiras, and the footpath linking Pico do Areeiro and Pico Ruivo.
However, at 9:30 this morning a Volunteer Firefighters of Câmara de Lobos source confirmed that the German tourist had been found alive and well, halfway between Pico do Areeiro and Pico Ruivo, except for minor injuries resulting from a small fall.
The rescue mission was successfully terminated shortly after 7:00 am when the man was taken by ambulance to the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital.
