Air-Sea Rescue In Action Again

Yesterday, the Portuguese Air Force (FAP) were called out to rescue a sick crew member aboard a vessel sailing 80 km off the Porto Santo coast. The 45-year-old, who needed urgent medical assistance, was rescued by an air-sea rescue crew from 751 Squadron – Pumas, using an EH-101 Merlin helicopter.  They arrived at the scene at 08:30.

The sick man was immediately flown to Madiera International Airport, where on arrival, he was transferred into a waiting ambulance and transported to the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital.

This is the third rescue carried out over the Christmas period.
