After a meeting on the 3rd of November Águas e Residuos da Madeira (ARM) workers agreed to strike on the 30th of November and the 2nd of December.
The decision was taken after the worker’s demands, discussed on the 6th and 7th of October were not met.
As union SITE did not obtain any response from the company or government agencies with regard to the workers’ claims, the union was forced to implement industrial action in their fight for employee justice.
Under discussion were wage increases of at least 90€ for each worker, to be backdated from the 1st of January 2022, an increase in meal allowances, a 35-hour week for all workers, the revision of the Company Agreement, and finally, better and guaranteed Health and Safety measures throughout the workplace.
