Proving that age is just a number, 118 groups, from 18 different countries are participating in the 8th Editon of the ‘Golden Age Gym Festival.’ The festival started on the 2nd of October and ends on the 7th, with a total of 1,600 gymnasts over the age of 50 taking part.
From clothes to choreographies, to accessories, to musical choices, everything has been prepared down to the smallest detail. Between 17h00 and 19h30 dozens of performances take place on the stages located in the Town Hall Square and Santa Catarina park in Funchal. While mornings are dedicated to a wide variety of workshops.
The event closes on Friday the 7th, and event organisers hope that the overall message “don’t accept age limitations.’ will be embraced not only by those taking part but those who looking for inspiration in their own lives. Many of the participants have been gymnasts since they were small, while others have gone back to it in later life, saying that gymnastics gives them the foundation for a happy healthy life through exercise, joy, companionship, health, and fun.
