Over the past week there has been an increase in seismic activity off the coast of Madeira, and this afternoon was no different. At 14:51 a 2.3 magnitude earthquake was recorded off the east coast of Madeira. However, the epicentre of the quake is actually closer to Morocco than the Madeiran archipelago.
According to the Portuguese Institute of Atmosphere and Sea (IPMA), the quake had a depth of 20 km.
