Revalidation of Santana Biosphere Reserve Award

The Regional Government of Madeira, through the Regional Secretary for the Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change, Susana Prada, congratulated the municipality of Santana for maintaining, for another decade, the Biosphere Reserve Award. The award was first issued by UNESCO in 2011, through the ‘Man and Biosphere Programme,’ which aims to conserve natural heritage and develop society in a sustainable way.

In their congratulatory message, the Regional Government wrote:

“The Regional Government congratulates the Municipality of Santana for the revalidation of the Biosphere Reserve Award for another ten years.

A decision by UNESCO that validates the policies adopted in the Region of sustainable development allied to local wealth and that increases the responsibility and commitment to exercise daily the conservation of our biodiversity and our cultural heritage.

With this revalidation, the Region continues to integrate 2 Biosphere Reserves in Portugal: Santana and Porto Santo.”
