Arraial das Casas do Povo Is Back Between 2nd – 4th of June

After three years of interregnum, due to the pandemic, Arraial das Casas do Povo is returning to the centre of Funchal (Pier 8), between the 2nd and 4th of June.

In total, there are 37 Casas do Povo throughout the island, who all will exhibit a variety of regional gastronomy delights at the event.

As for entertainment, there will be performances by more than 30 musical groups, most of them allocated to Casas do Povo, which, during the three day Arraial, will highlight the musical customs and traditions of the region.

The first Arraial took place in 2019, attracting thousands of people into the city centre and this year, with its return the event is guaranteed to attract both residents and visitors alike.

The President of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque will attend the opening ceremony at 18:30 on Thursday the 2nd of June, and be accompanied by the Youth Choir Group of Casa do Povo do Curral das Freiras, who will sing both the regional and national anthems. After this several bands will provide musical entertainment until midnight.

On Friday the 3rd of June, the festivities start at 17:00 and end at 01:00 under the direction of DJ SIL.

The event ends on Saturday, the 4th of June.  Entertainment starts at 14:30 with the Traditional Dance and Singing Group of Casa do Povo de Água de Pena.  Various artists and groups will perform throughout the afternoon and evening, while singer Miro Freitas will close the show at 11 pm.  However, DJ João Canada will ensure that the party carries on in true Madeira style until 2 am.
